The copyright date of 1949 is printed on the title page. Bound in orange cloth with an image of a house stamped in black on the front, with pictorial endpapers, and with blue or green topstain. The first issue dust jacket has the author's picture on the back flap, and the "S" in "SALESMAN" touches the arm of the salesman illustrated on the front.

Note: Book club editions have a dot on the lower right of the back boards (near the spine).
