"First Published by the Viking Press in June, 1954" is stated on the copyright page, with Colonial Press noted as the printer. Boards are pale olive with red lettering and blue birds. Pages have red top stain. Dust jacket rear has a photo of Steinbeck without reviews.
Book club editions have a tiny red ink dot on the bottom right corner of the rear board. The book club editions we have seen also lack top stain to pages.
